Moonlight Colourthon 2010
With over half a million pounds pledged to date and benefitting some 236 different charities - it’s hard to believe that the 2010 Colourthon will only be our fourth! In this short time it has established itself as one of the top charity events in Essex. We believe this success is due mainly to the fact that anyone can walk* for any registered charity of their choice.
The ethos behind the Colourthon Events remains to provide predominately smaller charities with the facility to raise much needed funds for their particular cause. The Colourthon consists of two events the ‘Moonlight Colourthon’ and ‘Sunlight Colourthon’ which are, in essence, sponsored walks but with a difference. Walkers of the ‘Moonlight Colourthon’ will walk a half marathon (13.1 miles) at night and are encouraged to dress as brightly as their imagination will allow them to! This year’s event sets off from Chalkwell Park at 8pm on Saturday 3rd July, 2010. It takes in the waterfront along Southend Seafront and Westcliff’s picturesque cliff tops with their brisk sea breezes, drops down overlooking the famous pleasure pier and then travels through the exclusive Chalkwell Hall Estate, past Old Leigh Village with its quaint cottages and fisherman’s sheds returning back through Leigh itself, finishing back at Chalkwell Park.

The walk is only open to entrants aged 16 or over. To compliment this is the ‘Sunlight Colourthon’ which is predominately aimed at the under 16’s or anyone who feels the half marathon is a challenge that bit too far. The ‘Sunlight Colourthon’ runs on the same day between 3 and 5pm, with the challenge being to complete as many laps as possible of a predetermined circuit within the given time.
Walkers in both events must register and pay an entrance fee in advance and nominate their chosen charitable organisation for which they intend to raise funds. When nominating you chosen charity our only requirement is that it must be registered with the Charities Commission. The entrance fee for the ‘Moonlight Colourthon’ is £15 which includes an exclusive brightly coloured ‘Colourthon’ T-shirt carrying the ‘Moonlight Colourthon’ logo and your medal to proudly boast that you’ve completed your walk.

Entrance to the ‘Sunlight Colourthon’ is £2.50 but does not include a T-Shirt. Following your registration you will receive confirmation of your entrance together with detailed event information, sponsorship form, walker’s number etc. The registration fee is to cover the event set up costs but, should there be any surplus monies following the event it will be donated directly to ‘Southend Round Table 106’ (Registered Charity No. 1052897) to be used to benefit the local community details of which can be found at www.southendroundtable.org. Should you not have a particular charity you wish to support but would like to enter the event we would be delighted for you to walk for Southend Round Table, just enter them as your nominated charity on the membership form.

All the sponsorship money that you raise will be collected by your nominated charity in it's entirety and, furthermore, for each of your sponsors that ticks the Gift Aid box on the sponsorship form the charity will also benefit from a tax refund of 28% of the total raised (e.g. every £10 raised will be worth £12.80 to your charity).
So, what are you waiting for? Get your forms returned, get training and you too can take the challenge and . . .
